Yes, the Capital welcomed the year 2064 BS with lots of partying, singing and dancing from early evening till the wee hours of the year’s first day.

The much touted ‘An Evening at Lal Durbar’ at Hotel Yak and Yeti’s Regal Ballroom was a kind of a mixed fare. People did enjoy it, but the blink-and-you-miss performance by the night’s supposed-to-be main event Udita Goswami, was a major let down for those who had shelled out grands just to see her performance.

She stage show was brief. By the time she made her appearance after 11:00 pm, the audience who had left their tables and were crowding near the stage appeared to have lost their patience. The emcees — Sushil and Zenisha Moktan — had to raise their voices to make themselves heard above the shouts for Udita, who performed on a remixed medley of hit songs like Soniye from Aksar, title track Ashique Banaya, among others and left.

The unsatiated audience (you know which gender) kept growling ‘Ek baar aaja, aaja...’. However, their wishes remained unrequited as Udita did not appear on stage again.

Earlier in the evening Shivani and Sheetal Moktan sang their popular number Kinarama and another from their upcoming album. Nepali dance group Friendship Dance Troupe performed to Bollywood numbers like Babuji, Crazy kiya re and others. Preeti Kaur and Mingma Sherpa also entertained the crowd.

The Meet Brothers sang recent hit Dil mein baji guitar from the movie Apna Sapna Money Money, and helped the emcees with the countdown to the new year. After that DJ P*Yell and DJ Kranti made the crowd dance to their music.

The other party — Sinners in Heaven — at Yak and Yeti’s Atritium began late but DJ Nawed and DJ Shireen from India were able to keep the crowd dancing till the wee hours of the morning.

Both events were organised by Surya Kala Films.

Party never ends

April 13 was the time to disco and of course party and PartyNepal did not disappoint. They had organised two parties — one at Liquid Lounge and the other at Sports Bar and Café.

The ladies shimmered flaunting their petite figures in their seductive dresses at the Liquid Lounge. It was a fashion fiesta with girls showing up in well co-ordinated dress sequences. By the time people started pouring on to the dance floor, it was quite late but once they started, there was no stopping them. Numbers like Hips don’t lie, Gasolina, Sexy Back, Buttons, Beep, Chunri Sexy, Beedi had them on their dancing the night away.

DJ Rafsy all the way from Mumbai and DJ Vibe of Nepal Music kept the crowd entertained. Laser lights added that special extra effect.

When the clock struck 12, almost 600 people were there to cheer and greet each other. With the dawn of yet another New Year, the crowd partied harder and continued till 2:00 am.

DJ NVN thrilled the crowd at the Sports Bar.
