Fashion gala
KATHMANDU:
If you think you don’t have a sense of fashion, then the Sunsilk Nepal Fashion Week is here to help you out. To be held from August 10-14 at Hyatt Regency, it is organised by IEC Institute of Art and Fashion.
A fashion exhibition of various stalls will be held from 11:00 am onwards through the entire week, while the fashion show will start from 7:00 pm.
Traditional fusion
They’ve called their collection ‘Fashion in an art form’ as their creations are inspired by different cultures, mostly Nepali and Indian. Having used traditional handprints, thanka prints, Mithila art in their work, these designers say their collection will bring about a revolution in the Nepali as well as the international fashion world.
Their creations are casual and more of a fusion, a mix-n-match of sorts in fabrics like raw silk and cotton. And since there is a strong traditional feel to their collection, they say their collection is not at all going to be monotonous but very, very colourful.
Collection’s USP: “We’ve used a brand new concept — handprints, thanka prints, Mithila art in our dresses. Once you see our collection, you will get an idea about the exact placement of these on your dress,” say designers Reshu Agrawal, Shweta Kheta, Chamma Keyal and Ruchi Chachan, who are students at IEC.
Elegantly sexy
And here’s a group that wants to add that mysterious shimmer to your nights. Mostly composed of Western evening wear, their collection ‘Shimmering Night’ will showcase party-wear like gowns — some backless, some strapless, but all very sexy.
They’ve worked on fabrics like lycra, satin and net and their colours are black, white, silver,
grey, golden and blue. Though the gowns will be of the single colour, but these monotones will be highlighted by some amazing sequins and beadwork.
Collection’s USP: “We’ve got some awesome ‘back’ designs on our gowns. We’ve used pleats and gathers in a variety of new ways and our cuts are unique,” echo Isha Agrawal, Poonam Sharma, Priyanka Agrawal and Sharmila Thapa, also students at IEC, whose favourite designers are Ma-nish Malhotra (of course), Ritu Beri and Rocky S.
(The collections will be put up on August 12. Entry to fashion exhibition is free; fashion show ticket is Rs 750 — 4247475)
