Film South Asia ’05

Kathmandu:

Stories don’t have to be great to be arresting. Girish Giri’s debut venture Team Nepal is the only Nepali film that will be screened at the Film South Asia ’05. The documentary is about a passionate team of soccer players from Birgunj going to play a tournment in Sonpur, Bihar, India. But, as the story unfolds it’s not just the game but also the subtle documentation of Indo-Nepal relationship that marks the masterstroke of a genuine filmmaker. The story flows with a spontaneous, simple and innocent rendition. “I’m extremely happy to hear about Team Nepal’s selection at FSA 05. The fact that no other filmmaker is included in the FSA selection list, has added more responsibility to represent Nepal at the festival,” said excited filmmaker Girish. Padam Bajracharya, who edited the award winning film Bhedako Oon Jasto. He put the pieces together and wove it into the current length of 37 minutes.

Team Nepal could also be an inspirational film for young documentary enthusiasts. “We are extremely proud and happy to present a filmmaker this time,” said Kiran Shrestha — team leader of Nepa~laya, which has produced the film. FSA ‘05 is being held from September 29 to October 4 at Kumari Cinema, Kathmandu.
