Helambu’s daughter

KATHMANDU:

You may have seen her in Jire Khursani. But there is more to Doma Lama than that. A noted actor hailing from Helambu, Lama started acting 20 years ago. She was recently felicitated for her acting by the Mukumba people (from Dolpa).

Also a successful singer, Lama and has nine albums under her belt, which includes eight albums in her native tongue (Hyolmo) and a Selo album that was released recently by UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Lama is also a social worker and with 10 other people, she has established the Dhaulagiri International Culture Group that seeks to promote the diverse Nepali cultural activities at home and abroad and donate the money generated for the support of the needy.

“We are planning to stage a dance performance comprising all Nepali cultures this coming Lhosar. If we succeed, we will take the programme abroad,” Lama says.

The Everest Foundation has also felicitated Lama for her generous social services.

“It feels nice to be recognised for one’s talent, especially after having coming from a remote place.”

Lama is also writing a songbook comprising “typical” songs of Helambu.
