Intriguing short films

Spain in Short’, the Spanish short film festival has some really refreshing and captivating films lined up. As such short films are quite new here one may have the misconception that a 10 to 15 minute film will not have anything worthwhile to show. But the directors with their skills and vision have created some really interesting and beautiful films in the few minutes they get to tell their story. Some are in documentary forms while some are in a more abstract form.
Two shows were held on December 1. The first show had short films from the Basque Country and another screening of the day was General Overview of short films in Spain. The second show started with the short film Hiyab, directed by
Xavi Sala which deals with a girl from the Muslim community being encouraged by her teacher to remove her scarf from her head, so as to reduce cultural gap among students and assimilate people from all religions. But does this really bridge the gap and are all students the same, its for you to find out.
The next one 10 Minutos by Alberto Ruiz Rojo has its emotional side and the suspense it holds merged interestingly. Faith in Chaos by Sergi Agusti deals with the after effects of war and has some gripping images captured by Pep Bonet. Whereas Aerosol by Miguel Angel Rolland, focuses on the graffiti scene and the thoughts of youngsters who do graffiti. The other films shown included Nana, El Valancin De Ivan and Valido Para Un Baile.
On December 2, Spain in Short will be showing Animation short films from Catalonia at 12.00 pm and General overview of short films in Spain (repetition) at 3.00 pm at Nepal Tourism Board. Entry is fee. First come first serve basis.
