Latino Jazz heats up cool Shangri-la eve

Kathmandu:

The Jazz at Baithak, Shangri-la on October 14 was a sell out. Just as the beats of the music the night before at Gokarna still resounded with the same rage, the thundering thump of the drums and the blaring trumpets at the Shangri-la tempted to engage in yet another high-decibel musical evening.

The evening began on a different note and offered what the audience would only have expected. Gone were the improvisations, that for the uninitiated would have sounded a little disconcerting. The evening was all about concord and harmony as the bands swayed the audience with the sounds of the Afro-Caribbean and South American rhythms — Salsa, Meringue, Songo and Cha-cha-cha.

The Red Hot Latin Jazz featuring The Latin Jazz All Stars, Cadenza and Friends with Nick Aggs, Andy Grosskopf and El David was part of the Surya Classic Jazzmandu 2006 presented by Upstairs Ideas.
