Jilin University is distinguished by innovative research and scholarship. The university ranks among the top 500 of the world. Annual enrolment of foreign students exceeds 1,000.

Located in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin Province in North-eastern China, the University has eight campuses in five districts which are home to 39 colleges covering eleven academic disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, literature, education, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management. The University boasts sixteen disciplinary areas, five national key laboratories, and eight national bases for the development of basic science. JLU offers a variety of degree programs. It has now 115 undergraduate programs, 192 master’s degree program, 105 doctoral degree programs, and 17 post-doctoral programs. At present there are 5,700 faculty members, with fourteen members of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1,270 full professors, and 1,652 associate professors. Facilities include, first of all, a fast gigabit computer network. Optic fibre cables connect all the campuses together, and over 20,000 computers are hooked up to the network. The university library claims a collection of 5.26 million books and is designated as the library of UNESCO, UNIDO and World Bank. All campuses have gymnasiums, stadium, and arenas for basketball, volleyball, table tennis and artistic gymnastics.

Undergraduate requirements:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma. The applicants must have adequate Chinese language proficiency (HSK Band three for science, and engineering students, Band six for humanities and social science). The students whose Chinese language is not proficient enough may enrol first in a one-year Intensive Chinese Language Study Program.

Materials to be submitted:

•A copy of completed applicationform for international students.

•A copy of a high school diploma.

•A copy of official transcripts from the high school or college (if attended)

•A copy of passport.

•A copy of certificate of HSK examination .

•A copy of completed physical examination record form.

Application must be sent between March 1 to July 30. Application fee is US$50. Enrolments begin on August 25 and continues till September 1 or as stated in the admission notice issued by the university. Length of the programme is four years for baccalaureate degree (five years for medical students).

Graduate requirements:

•Master’s candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree; HSK band 6 or above.

•Doctoral candidate must have a master’s degree; HSK band 6 or above. HSK is not needed for courses, which are not taught in Chinese.

•A copy of completed application form.

•A copy of corresponding degree certificate, diploma, transcripts.

•Two recommendations by professors

•Copy of passport

•Band 6 or above certificate of HSK examination

•A copy of completed physical examination record form

Application time begins on March 1 to May 30. Enrolment begins on August 25 to September 1 or as stated in the admission notice issued by the University. The length of the programme is three years.
