Lee’s no hip-hop fan

LONDON: Spike Lee, the director of such films as Malcolm X, has criticised hip hop culture for making pimps and strippers role models for blacks. “When I was growing up, I didn’t know any guys who wanted to be a pimp or girls who wanted to be a stripper. We looked up to those who were smart. These days if you speak one sentence without being profane, you are not black. If you are not in the corner smoking a joint you are not ghetto. Thinking like that is genocide.”
