KATHMANDU: The maiden Portuguese Film Festival in Nepal will begin on March 23 with the screening of Vou para Casa (I’m Going Home) at the Russian Cultural Centre at 4:00 pm. The festival is organised by the Honorary Consulate of Portugal in collaboration with Instituto Camoes, Portuguese embassy, New Delhi.
Gilbert Valence is a theatre comedian. But one night tragedy strikes and his wife, daughter and son-in-law are killed in a car crash. Then Valence divides his time looking after his grandson and the theatre. One day he is offered a part in a telefilm on drugs, sex and violence. Angry, Valence refuses the part. When an American director proposes filming James Joyce’s Ulysses, Valence readily agrees. But on the day of the shoot, Valence has memory lapses. But nothing serious. On the sets the next day, the actor feels the world slipping away. He cannot face the truth. He stops and says calmly, “I’m going home...”
