Living for the moment

Normally, I am calm and quiet but I was a bit different at the picnic we went for when I was in class 12. This day was certainly an exception than my normal days. Hoping to make it a memorable day, though I never dance, I started dancing along with my friends absurdly. I sang a bit too loud, but then who cared? Our ridiculous performance created quite a scene at the picnic. At the picnic spot, I even dragged one of our female teachers to dance despite her refusal and behaved badly. She was suspicious and asked me whether I was drunk. She too, like many others that day, was surprised to know that I was not. On our way to home in the bus, I was very tired due to continuous dancing and singing. Seeing this, one of my friends requested me to rest for a while but I didn’t. Instead, I went to sit with my Nepali teacher and acted rudely with him. Obviously, he got upset and since

that day he calls me ‘badmas’ guy. Though it was a memorable day I do regret it

because I lost my voice for nearly three days and my body was aching for quite some time.

Recently I bought a washing machine so that I could save my time and protect

my self during this cold weather. But this new purchase of mine has been a burden to me since I cannot operate it due to load shedding. As we have load shedding daily these days, I am regretting investing a huge amount for such a thing that is lying unused.

Life is not just for doing hard work. It’s for having fun as well. Recently, I went for a picnic with my friends, which was my parents did not approve of, as the expenses were too high. But, it was a nice picnic and we had tasty food. We sang and danced. We played many entertaining games. All in all we had a very good time. I will remember this picnic forever. Even though the expenses were high, I have no regrets at all. I got more than what I paid for. My mind was refreshed and I became more lively as I had such great fun.

I had such wonderful experience when I went for rafting. Though Rs 2500 was a bit too much for me considering my salary at that time, I decided to go for it anyway. It was when my friend insisted that we go that I joined in and had a lot of fun. It was a really memorable experience for me. Meeting people with similar interests I realised that we are not unknown to each other, even if we have not met before there is a bond that connects us.

Once I had a great fun with my friends. Some of my friends were having a football match. So, they asked permission with school for a day leave but the school denied it. We discussed with the players and me along with some friends bunked the class after the second period to go and watch the game. The game was very fierce, either team could win. There was a lot of cheering for the opponent’s team but there were only a few of us cheering for our friend’s team. But finally the victory was ours. Our team received the medal. That day I had taken Rs 350 from my piggy bank secretly. We collected the money all of us had, the total was about Rs 1150. We went to a cafe and enjoyed the food there. We all finished our pocket money, so we could not go by taxi or even by bus. We walked all the way to home together. But it was a lot of fun. Since that day was Friday and the following day a holiday, on Sunday, teachers had forgotten that we had bunked the class. There was no punishment for us. We really had a great a time and it became a memorable day for me.

Who would not be tempted to have fun in one’s life either by eating good food in expensive restaurants or by wearing expensive clothes or visiting different beautiful places of interest? Everybody, rich or poor, wants to do something like this once in a while. I too, as a middle-aged man, went to visit Delhi with a group of my friends. We received a lot of financial help from my best friend. There I was in Delhi, visiting many historical and religious places. In Agra, I saw the Taj Mahal, made by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. Its construction looks so wonderful that it is unique in itself. You have to appreciate its beautiful carvings and paintings, which could have been done only by skillful people. There, I had a lot of fun going on horse rides, visiting Qutub Minar, Birla Mandir and parliamentary building. These are all scenes and sceneries that filled me with a sense of happiness and I will never forget them in my life.

I love going to different places and meeting people from various walks of life. Driven by my passion for travel, I have seen a few places from this vast universe, some of them creating a lifetime of memories for me. One such visit was to the Taj Mahal in India .

Since my school days I had heard and read many stories about the Taj Mahal. The amazing stories about it tempted me see it. Fortunately, a day came when I saw my dream turning into a reality. On reaching the Taj Mahal I realised that the place and location where the beautiful structure stands, were more beautiful than what I had heard and read. The calm and soothing environment in and around the Taj Mahal was so breathtaking and mesmerising that I forgot the tiring journey too. This was such an experience and a feeling that I am unable to describe in words. Moreover, the travel, despite being very expensive, was an enjoyable one for me.

Today people have excess demands, whether it fits their budget or not. People do like to show off the best to society. I myself did this by buying expensive clothes and going to expensive restaurants. It was very exciting for me and my family, but later I really regretted it as after some months I didn’t have any cash. At that time I wished I had saved some of that money then it would help me today.

It is not important that what we do should always be right, but it is necessary to take lessons from the experience we have, be it a regretful or a memorable one. In my life also, I recently

had an awful experience. My college friends organised a weekend tour to India. Though, it was expensive and out of my budget, I participated in it and went for the tour. On the way, we faced many problems due to a strike and we had to spend our days stuck in one place.

We could not reach our destination due to the lack of time and money, so we returned back. I was hoping that the tour would be a memorable one and filled with fun but my dreams were all shattered.

My greatest impulse was buying gifts for my ex-boyfriend. I spent nearly Rs 10,000 a week buying gifts for him. I was always treating him and his friends to outings and gifts. However, now I regret spending so much on him as I came to know that he was just spending all my money without loving me. Now I am wise enough not to indulge overly in my boyfriends but rather to spend on myself. My greatest indulgence now is on books, which I never regret buying.

It was just a day after I came back from a weeklong travel. I had been to Banepa just to spend my holidays after the completion of my exams. Yes, of course there are people who act on an impulse but later regret it. However, my visit to Banepa was really a worthwhile one. There were lots of things to do there and I didn’t have any idea where to start. There were lots of beautiful neighbouring places to visit like Dhulikhel and Panauti. And many

temples to visit that hold historical, social and cultural importance.

Once, while visiting Newroad market, a fascinating coat captured my eyes and I purchased it too. But later I regretted this momentary ecstasy of mine which later turned into remorse. I had saved the money to fill up my MA first year forms but I didn’t have the money anymore, so it had a negative impact on my academic life.

Few years back when I had broken up with my boyfriend and was feeling very low some of my friends decided to freshen up my mood so we went to a mall. That day I decided to forget everything and enjoy my time with friends. We went on a shopping spree — buying clothes, cosmetics and accessories. I even got a new hair style and highlights at a very expensive salon. By the end of the day after all the shopping, pampering, movie and dinner I had spent around 5000 bucks but my mood was refreshed and I really enjoyed the day. I even realised that I can have an enjoyable time with my own friends and life does not end with a break

up. Though I had spent a lot I did not regret on my indulgence.

Just to have fun once I planned to go for a long tour during my holidays outside the Kathmandu valley with my friends. We went to Dharan and had an enjoyable time with them. But we had taken only a limited amount of money which turned out to be insufficient in the end. While coming back as we had no money left we had to ask for help from some agencies and finally we were able to get back home. We all returned having a refreshing break and good memories.

I went cycling all the way to Nagarkot with my friends. It was an adventurous trip, we travelled for hours and even got to know new places and roads. During this trip one of my friends who is very good at telling jokes, shared his jokes with us. So, we had a very fun time and did not feel tired. This is one trip which I still remember as a memorable one.

Recently, I along with eleven other friends went for trekking from Nayapul, Kaski to Poon hill, Myagdi and then came back to Nayapul. Walking for 23 hours within 3 days was really difficult. We also went to Pokhara. There I had a very memorable experience as I was lost inside Mahendra cave for about half an hour as there was load shedding inside the cave. But the most dreaded time of the trip was when the boat we were rowing at Phewa lake couldn’t be brought back to land till dark. My heart started beating heavily as we were stuck on a rock. But now when we look at our photographs of that trip we just remember the good moments and feel happy about it.
