Liz Taylor doing fine: Publicist

LOS ANGELES: Elizabeth Taylor is undergoing hospital treatment for an undisclosed condition, her spokesman confirmed on July 31, denying reports that the legendary actress was close to death.

Taylor’s Los Angeles-based publicist Dick Guttman said in a statement that although the 76-year-old Hollywood icon had been hospitalised, she was expected to return home shortly.

“Miss Taylor is fine,” Guttman said. “The rumours which began in England about her health are dramatic, overstated and untrue. Her hospital visit was precautionary. She will be returning home shortly.

“At present, she is surrounded by family, friends and fabulous jewels,” he said. Guttman did not identify the hospital treating Taylor.

According to the National Enquirer tabloid, Taylor’s health was reported to have deteriorated after she had been diagnosed with pneumonia and congestive heart failure, prompting

her to be placed on life support.

Taylor’s health has been the subject of intense speculation in recent years. In 1997 she underwent surgery to have a brain tumour removed and in 2006 she appeared on US television to deny rumours she had Alzheimer’s.
