Lydon calls Winehouse fake

LONDON: Rock Band Sex Pistols’ lead singer John Lydon has hit out at troubled British singer Amy Winehouse, accusing her of imitating music and turning to drugs and alcohol to disguise her “lack of talent”.

Lydon criticised the singer’s Grammy award winning 2006 album Back To Black, branding her style of music as “idiotic”, reports contactmusic.com.

“Poor old Amy. Aimless Winehouse would be a better term. I love all kinds of music but the one thing I have never done is imitate black music in her idiotic way,” he told Scottish newspaper Daily Record.

Lydon also put Winehouse’s ongoing struggle with her addictions down to her alleged musical failings and said, “I don’t like pale imitations and shades of things and I am always wary when people go jazzy because jazz is the best cover up for a lack of talent.

And the cover up for her, which is probably the guilt trip, is that she requires vast amounts of drugs to hide the fact that she is a fake.” Winehouse’s mother claimed earlier this week that her daughter was no longer using drugs.
