Sir Paul McCartney’s band The Fireman, accused of stealing Blind Willie Johnson’ song, has denied such claims insisting that the track was used merely as “inspiration”.

McCartney has been accused of using some elements of blues star Johnson’s track Let Your Light Shine On Me for their new song Light From Your Lighthouse in their latest album Electric Arguments.

The band has denied breaching copyright saying Johnson’s song was also based on a famous gospel composition.

“It’s true that The Fireman used the Blind Willie Johnson track as inspiration for our own song. His is a traditional song and this is not the first time an artist has made their own version using such a traditional song,” said the duo. — PTI
