Mariah Carey gives gift of fun to under-priviliged kids

HOLLYWOOD: Singer Mariah Carey spread some holiday cheer to 35 underpriviliged Colorado kids this week.

The multioctave songstress rented out the city-owned Aspen Recreation Center for four hours at $1000 an hour, The Aspen Times reported.

The kids enjoyed a day of wall climbing, swimming and ice-skating and were provided entertainment by magicians and storytellers.

"It was all about the kids," Jude Liguori-Oliver, child protective services administrator for the City and County of Denver, told The Aspen Times, "Many of these kids haven't been out of Denver. A lot of them haven't been in the mountains."

But no Christmas party is complete without a visit from Santa himself. The jolly fat man arrived on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, with Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon, by his side.

The kids were delighted at the sight of the diva with St. Nick.

"As soon as she got off the sleigh, they started screaming, 'Mariah! Mariah! Mariah!' " Ligouri-Oliver told The Aspen Times.

Carey is a regular visitor of Aspen around the holidays.
