Marking Vesak 2550 at Lankan embassy

KATHMANDU:

The Embassy of Sri Lanka observed religious ceremonies to celebrate the Vesak 2550 at the Embassy premises on May 12. Nepali Buddhist monks, who were invited for the ceremony, chanted psalms for peace and prosperity. Dignitaries from different fields including Nepali devotees, attended the ceremony.

Prior to the formal ceremony, the embassy premise was teeming with people from all religious backgrounds. The mood around the embassy turned solemn as the air permeated with the aroma of the burning incense sticks and brightly illuminated traditional vesak lanterns. The Buddhist monks chanted their prayers in Nepali and English, intended for Nepali-speaking and non-Nepali-speaking people.

Speaking to this daily, Wimal De Silva, Counsellor for Ambassador said, “It’s a matter of great pleasure that Nepali devotees have shown their enthusiasm to attend this ceremony. Today’s celebration wouldn’t have been successful without them. Our mission, wherever we are, is to make every effort for peace and we are pleased that people expressed their appreciation to our cause.”
