Miss India in town

Kathmandu :

I’ve been in front the camera for five years and love doing what I do,” says Femina Miss India Earth 2005 Niharika Singh, who is here in the Capital to launch a new centre for International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD).

Niharika who is also the brand ambassador for the design institute continues the flurry of celebrity visits in the capital to add more than just the star spiel that it seems to suggest. The beauty queen is also scheduled to visit students for interaction at the newly established centre at Lazimpat on August 27.

Niharika, who has done scores of commercials and music videos, is however reluctant when broached if she’s planning a foray into the silver screen. “I’m very selective about my work and a few offers have come my way. I love being on camera and at present am happy with what I’m doing,” she said.

And though her fans might have to wait until she actually shows up on the silver screen, on her own account she’s at present quite occupied with ads and commercials which has long been her forte.

Also present at the press meet was Anindhi Srivastav, vice-president of INIFD, who informed about the institute’s recent tie-up with the Los Angeles Design Academy. “Nepal has a rich cultural heritage and we hope we’ll be able to provide students an international exposure and a platform where they can showcase their creativity and of course, Nepal’s rich cultural heritage,” she said.

Established in 1995, INIFD has 180 state of the art centres in India and boasts of 10,000 students. It offers a two-year advance programme and three-year specialisation programme in the field of fashion design, textile design and interior design with computers as an essential part of the curriculum.
