New bird discovered

A new sort of bird has been discovered on an isolated range of mountains in South America. The previously unknown species, called the Yariguies Brush Finch, has striking black, yellow and red feathers. Two birds were caught by a team of experts, which were then photographed and their DNA taken before being released back into the wild unharmed. Blanca Huertas, from the Natural History Museum in London, said it was really rare to find a new type of bird.

The bird, which has been given the Latin name Atlapetes latinuchus yariguierum, is different from its closest relatives by having a black back and no white markings on its wings.
