KATHMANDU: Jail depicts the day-to-day lives of prisoners behind the bars mainly dramatising the psychology of those who are innocent but convicted. Through the lead character Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and the storyline that revolves round his role, the movie vividly portrays the components that sum up lives in a jail and the helplessness of Parag, who is convicted in a falsely implicated case.

Parag had a good life — recent promotion in an automobile company and a loving girlfriend, Maanasi, (Mugdha Godse). Suddenly his smooth life comes to an abrupt when he and his friend are found guilty on charge of drug peddling. His friend gets shot in an encounter with the police. Parag didn’t know that his roommate who was also his colleague was dealing in drugs. He gets mired the mess and becomes the major culprit as the police turn a deaf ear to his appeals. Court hearing orders Parag to a life behind bars until the investigation is complete. Life turns difficult for Parag, he is not easily able to cope with prison life. He becomes confused at times but he finds a friend in Nawab (Manoj Bajpai), who believes that Parag is innocent.

And everyone inside the prison has their own traumatised stories to tell.

Neil Nitin justifies his character. He best portrays the pathos and restlessness of his character and deserves a huge round of applause. Mugdha Godse plays her part very well and she carries her on-and-off glamour look very well.

Manoj Bajpai justifies his subdued character with perfection. Jail, too is embroidered with perfect performances from young actors Arya Babbar and Rahul Singh.

Music does not hold much scope and has only three songs but blends beautifully with the storyline. That section of movie goers who expects entertainment can skip this film as it is away from sunshine and at times depressing.

However, Jail is worth watch for those who crave a realistic tone.
