KATHMANDU: Pahilo Pahilo Maya is a love story from the 80's. Everything goes fine in the introductory part of the movie but slowly scenes begin to take unexpected twists and turns and that too very rapidly making this movie at best a forgettable one.
Sagar (Raj Ballav Koirala) is the son of a servant, while Chandani (Yuna Uprety) is the master's daughter. At a very young age, the two fall in love with each other. But Chandani's father (Sunil Thapa) is against their budding relationship. Chandani's father makes every attempt to separate the lovebirds. So, Sagar leaves the master's house at a very early age with his mother.
Sagar and his mother find some strangers to call their own in Pokhara and take a shelter in their home. Time flies... Sagar is now a tourist guide. As fate would have it, Chandani happens to be in Sagar's tour group and his hope to find the 'lost love' rekindles. But it is amazing to see the grown-up Sagar easily recognising the grown-up Chandani, while it was clear to viewers that they had parted ways at a very, very young age. There could be hundreds of Chandanis in this world, it is startling to see how easily Sagar is able to recognise his love instantly.
However, Chandani does not recognise her childhood love. The unexpected kidnapping and daring fight scenes feel like a waste of time with the same run of the mill sequences. Fight sequences were inevitable but the monotonous repeat of the fight scenes gets a bit tedious after a while. But it has to be mentioned here that the stunt director has done awesome work as the flying and round kicks look real and damaging. At time one wishes it was an action flick rather than a romantic one. The twists become more complicated after the introduction of a doctor (Nikhil Uprety) from US with whom Chandani is soon to get engaged.
The script and dialogue could have been a whole lot better. There are times when the serious dialogues elicited nothing but laughter from the audience. Koirala proves that he is a promising actor and he justifies his character as a hardcore lover. The actress is perfect in emotional scenes, but she looks uncomfortable as this girl with lots of attitude.
Nikhil Uprety holds a very less scope in the movie. Thapa is incredible in his negative role. Hats off to young artiste Ishant Raut for his extraordinary acting skills, which is all so natural. Title soundtrack Pahilo Pahilo Maya is pleasing to hear and it will surely leave you humming when you finish watching movie.
Overall the movie is okay to watch as long as you love laughing.
