PICK OF THE WEEK: No more loneliness: Orangutans to keep in touch via webcam

A zoo in the Netherlands is hoping to stop its orangutans feeling lonely by connecting them to a group of Indonesian apes — using a webcam! The Dutch animal park will link up with animals at a rescue centre in Borneo in the hope the creatures will get to know each other and maybe even find romance. It will also let them press a button to deliver their new friends a snack on the other side of the world! Orangutans who really like each other could be brought together to mate. The centre in Borneo gets about 30 new ape arrivals every day. The animals communicate using mirrors but keepers are worried they are bored and hope the webcams will cheer them up.
