Poetry for kids

KATHMANDU:

Kopila by Ghanashyam Khadka is a collection of 30 short poems for children. Easy to read with mostly four to five stanzas in each, the poems try to capture a child’s feelings, thoughts, questions, and wishes. Khadka has tried to identify well with a child and gives young hearts an interesting collection. Sometimes he has also used some mature words, but overall Khadka’s language is simple that can be easily understood by young children. The poems are located in a small village amidst the hills from where the snow capped mountains are seen. Everything is colouful, happy and violence does not exist in the village, a refreshing turn from today’s trouble to which children are exposed. Children’s inquisitive mind and their innocent wishes are highlighted in the poems. Khadka also turns didactic in some poems, like Banchari where he asks the hunters to not to end the life of a beautiful, vibrant bird just for the desire to eat one piece of meat.
