New York: Oscar-nominated actor Gary Sinise has used his fame to help change the lives of Iraqi children. According to Internet Movie Database, Sinise cofounded Operation Iraqi Children, which sends out classroom supplies to better the education of the children in Iraq. Sinise was horrified to find some schools without paper and pencils and so he immediately set up the charity when he returned to the US. He says: “One school I visited, rebuilt by the troops, it originally didn’t have a floor. It was just dirt and there were no windows. It was just kind of cinderblocks.” To date, his organisation has sent out more than 100,000 school kit but Sinise is modest about his achievements. He says: “It’s just a way to give back, just a way to do something to help out.”
