Resilient Nepal
KATHMANDU: The resilience of Nepal after the Gorkha earthquake has been noteworthy. This characteristics of the Nepalis was highlighted at ‘Faces of Hope’, an event hosted by Alliance Française of Kathmandu (AFK), on its premises on April 22.
As per a press release issued by AFK, the event was organised to “mark this milestone — one year anniversary of the April 2015 earthquake and the resilience of the Nepali people”.
Three experts from different fields had been invited to discuss on the topics as diverse as seismology, humanitarianism and reconstruction.
In the talk programme, Eric Sauvage, Engineer working for National Seismological Center talked about the recent earthquake and what is suppose to come in days ahead, adds the press statement. Christian Manhart, UNESCO Director shared about their initiatives in rebuilding heritage sites, added the release.
Throughout the evening the speakers explained about how leaders on the ground have been able to overcome the challenges in the face of monumental adversity.
A photo exhibition by American photographer Christopher Phillips, also kicked off on April 22 at the venue. In his first photo exhibition — ‘Life in Nepal’ — Phillips has put the photos depicting life of Nepalis post-earthquake on display. The photographs are on sale and 10 per cent of benefits will be donated to NGO Fresh Nepal.
The exhibition is on till May 8 except on weekends.
