Rock’s female legends remembered

KATHMANDU: The second gig of the Surya 24 Carat ‘Tribute to Rock’ took place at Bhumi restro-lounge on December 27. To promote its limited edition of the Tribute to Rock packet Surya has scheduled rock gigs dedicated to the vintage era of rock music at various venues around town. After their tribute to The Beatles on the first event at Dwarika’s, the second gig focussed on the music of the female rockers of the 60’s and 70’s.

The freezing winter evening saw a huge number of rock fans pouring in and out of the venue. The place was packed with hard core rock fans waiting for our very own female rocker Abhaya to start singing the classics. And their wait was justified when Abhaya and The Steam

Injuns performed on the scheduled time.

Guests scattered around the venue enjoyed the rocking music with hot and spicy delicacies along with flowing drinks. There was both indoors and outdoors sitting arrangements in place, and for those out in the garden a bonfire was arranged to make all feel warm.

Abhaya performed some of the greatest hits of Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, Tina Turner and even Rolling Stones among others. She also performed the very popular number Diula by Kumar Basnet as a “tribute to classic Nepali rock music”.

The show ended with the band performing a verse of their latest hit Timrai lagi.
