Root for child rights!
The government-Maoist peace talks have passed through various obstacles. The continued agitation and perplexity in the education sector have given rise to scuffles between student unions, private and boarding school organisations and the government, resulting in anarchy. This is a serious subject of concern.
There is a continuous conscience and growing voice against violence and in favour of peace. The “Children are Zones of Peace” campaign has, in fact, appealed to all conscious and peaceloving people. This campaign is not only limited in the city centres, but has been spreading all over the country including remote villages. But sadly the peace workers are still not allowed operate in their full power.
Another face of child rights violations are predominantly incurring in the forms of economic, social, physical, emotional and sexual abuse. The statistics, cases recorded and analysis of some report shows how the traditionally ingrained unfair social systems such as child labour exploitation, racial and caste discrimination, gender and social discrimination and sex abuse have infected our society.
HMG-Nepal has committed itself to a series of national and international conventions such as protection from child labour exploitation, commercial exploitation and trafficking, bonded labour, elimination of polio and drastic rise in infant mortality. But it is not totally capable to solve the problems. The majority of incidents of child rights violation still goes unreported due to inadequate support and poor awareness.
