Roy’s Prachanda launched

KATHMANDU: Prachanda: The Unknown Revolutionary, a biography written by journalist Anirban Roy on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, was launched by Subas Nembang, Chairman of Constituent Assembly, at Hotel Himalaya on September 19.

The biography has been published Mandala Book Point.

Writer Roy recalled that when he first came to Kathmandu, everyone asked him if he interviewed ‘Prachanda’. So, realising the importance of this person whom everyone was talking about, but about whom there really was not much concrete information, he decided to write this book. And with the help of Baburam Bhattarai, the PM’s family and the PM himself, the book came into being.

Roy added that being a journalist who is used to writing 500-word articles, it was a Herculean

task to write 50,000 words in the form of a book.

Professor Abhi Subedi presented his keynotes on the book describing it as a very honest book, which elements of literature and had been able created a persona — the hero that Dahal is, as mainly the situations of that time revolve around him. “It is a book about a person people have loved, critiqued or looked on with hope,” said Subedi and not a hardcore analysis of the Maoist movement in Nepal.

He also said that when he was asked what he had taught the PM when he was Subedi’s student, he had taught him, “him comedy, tragedy and satire in Shakespeare’s literature, and he combines all that now”.
