Shireen’s eclectic mixes
Kathmandu:
Don’t take her lightly just because she’s a female DJ. This lady from Kolkata has
just won the War of DJs 2007 in India.
“I’ve always loved music and it has been an integral part of my life. I play and mix music I love, and I make sure it is well received and loved by the crowd,” says DJ Shireen, who has been mixing for the last two years.
She adds, “People usually have a misconception that girls cannot mix properly. However, I have proved them wrong after winning the War of DJs.”
She was full of praise for our very own DJ Payal who she was able to watch in her first visit. In Kathmandu for the second time to make party animals hop and skip to her tunes, she is here especially on DJ Ankit’s request to heat up the night of September 28 at the Hip-Hop Hustle, a VH1 theme party at Galaxy Club, Hotel Everest.
Having just completed her Bachelors’ degree, she is thinking of taking up her passion of mixing music that she has been doing for the last two years as a career.
“I have taken my interest to a different level and have been working really hard on it. After winning the War of DJs I don’t see myself backing from the goals I have set for myself,” she said. Of the Kathmandu party crowd, she says, “The people here are very much into commercial Hip-Hop and Bollywood mixes, and only guys dig house music.”
For all aspiring DJs, her words are, “ If you really know your music and have a passion for it, nothing is impossible.”
