Sommeliers’ delight
KATHMANDU: As it was one of its kind event, the organisers had expected a huge turn out. But even as the event didn’t start by the stipulated time, it was obvious it wouldn’t be as happening as expected. As if the torrential rain of the evening wasn’t enough of a jinx, the roads to Thamel were clogged preventing people to attend the Wine Tasting event at Hotel Vaishali.
However, it was a nice and comfortable evening for the ones who did make it to the Mehfil Hall at Hotel Vaishali. The programme was organised to launch the Grapus wine varieties from Australia. Sandeep Kumar KC, a wine sommelier, was present to give his expert suggestions and share his knowledge on the best wines to wash down the dishes one savours.
From mellow to strong, the event saw different red and white wines being launched for the first time in Nepal, which included Barking Lizard Shiraz 2004, Barking Lizard Chardonnoy 2005, Grapus Cabernet Sauvgnon 2004, Grapus Merlot 2004, Grapus Shiraz 2004, Grapus Unwooded Chardonnoy 2005, Victoria Creek Caberet Sauvgnon 2004, Victoria Creek Merlot 2004, Victoria Creek Shiraz 2004 and Victoria Creek Unwooded Chardonnoy 2005.
These wines apart from being suitable for the famous wine and cheese combo are also just great to wash down the spicy Nepali delicacies.
