Replace any Bollywood action hero with Sonakshi Sinha in a battle of good and evil and treat it with good action stunts, then Akira is what you get. In the film, Sinha has broken bones and stereotypes to give an engaging and entertaining film, thanks to good action, interestingly executed plot along with good performances.
Akira is about Akira (Sonakshi Sinha) who is feisty and fearless. She is a quiet college going student from Jhodpur who knows some serious fighting. She can single-handedly fight a gang of baddies with ease. And her strength is tested when she falls in a sticky situation created by ACP Rane (Anurag Kashyap), the corrupt cop.
Director AR Murugadoss has executed the film pretty well and has made it gripping. Despite some glitches in the plot and Akira’s unrealistic fighting, the film comes out as an entertainer. There is good suspense, thrill and action put across at such a good pace that you won’t be bored during your viewing of the film. The second-half can be little tedious as it nears the climax. But overall, Akira kicks in as a film.
Sinha is the new action hero. She has kicked some serious butts and she has slain her action image. Her performance is remarkable as both the fighter and quiet college girl. But it is Kashyap who has nailed it. He is the best thing about the film. He is very entertaining even in his dark shades. Konkona Sen Sharma as a cop is natural, like always.
Akira as a film and character is not realistic, but the film is engaging and entertaining. What more can anyone expect from an action film?
