Sports Day celebrated
On December 15, our school celebrated Sports Day and PT display. Brigadier Dr Radha Shah, an ex-Marian, was the Chief Guest of the event held at the school field. The School Band, of which I am a part of started the programme playing the National Anthem.
Then, the girls from class VI performed a welcome dance. The hard work they had put in during the practices certainly was worth it,as they received a lot of appreciation. The first march past was done by the Band Girls, led by Jerusha Rai. Girls from class VI to class X followed the Band.
Then the oath taking and torch ceremony was observed by the games captain Tajshree Singh. Senior Sports Day had officially started but the excitement began when the 100 and 200 metres races and the hurdles started. The athletes competed with each other fiercely as the crowd cheered on. The inter house baton relay and the tug of war were equally exciting but the girls were very enthusiastic for the school vs college events. The P T display began after the winners of the sports event were awarded medals. This part of the programme included several displays like baton PT, karate display, pompom PT and mat PT. Pyramids have always been St Mary’s Sport Days’ inevitable feature and this time too, a glorious pyramid was set up with cartwheels, head-stands, Y-stands et cetera.
Different houses were given points for all the events. Red House won the House Cup while the runner up was Green House followed by the Blue and Yellow Houses. The chief guest distributed prizes to the winners.
The lowering of the flag to the solemn hymn Abide With Me indicated the official ending of the programme. It was certainly an unforgettable day for the Marians, and as for me, since it
is my last sports day at school, I will definitely cherish these memories.
