Spreading warm cheer
Street kids from Kalanki line up for the Soup Kitchen on December 23.
KATHMANDU: Christmas is a time of good cheer, sharing and a season that fosters the feeling of brotherhood in all men. Keeping alive this spirit of Christmas, the Soaltee Crowne Plaza, United Nations Women’s Organisation (UNWO) in cooperation with the Ladies Association of the Malaysian Embassy, have ventured into a social event that is new in the Valley — the soup kitchen project.
We’ve heard and read of soup kitchens being organised in the West, but on December 23 probably the first soup kitchen was held in the Valley at at Kalanki. Around 50 street children of the area availed of hot food at the kitchen.
These projects are basically meant to feed the street children providing them with a basic nutritious meal while at the same time keep them warm during the winter.
The Soaltee hotel provided them with warm food, blankets, bed sheets, and pillows, while the Ladies Association of the Malaysian Embassy provided socks and gloves.
Some vitamins were also distributed then.
The soup kitchen is a series of projects that will be conducted over the winter months.
