Lyricist Kshetra Pratap Adhikary and composer Shakti Ballav have come out with their latest venture ‘Colour of Love’, pop songs that are tailored to cater to the young. The objective behind this album was discussed at a press meet at Music Nepal.
“For an album, this our first attempt,” said Kshetra Pratap Adhikary, who is more known for his patriotic songs. “In terms of creation, it wasn’t difficult. People keep complaining about the new generation listening only to Western numbers. But what have we given them as alternative?” The duo decided to provide the alternative.
According to Adhikary and Ballav, the music balances the influence of both Nepali culture and popular Western music trend. They have been working on the album for two years trying to come up with a style that the young would like. Some of the songs are catchy with a folksy taste but also a Western influence.
The album contains songs sung by well-loved singers such as Raju Lama, Sapanashree, Thupden, Yam Baral, Sanjeev Singh and others. Using Sanskrit words such as “Tamasoma jyotirgamaya” (from darkness to light) and “Asatoma Sadgamaya” (from lies to truth) sung to catchy beats, Adhikary shares that he hopes the young will understand the words that have guided us, “We hope that they will not forget where we come from.” The blending is done very cleverly. “Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya” sung by Raju Lama is a beautiful song as is “Om Mane Peme” by Sanjeev Singh. With synthesised music, the album will surely be talked about.
