It was a big day for the students and the college itself. Graduation ceremony for the first batch of the students of Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management (SMSHM) was organised on January 16 at Soaltee Crown Plaza. Dipendra Purush Dhakal, a distinguished personality in tourism sector, inaugurated the programme. SMSHM is well known for its degree courses that it offers in Hospitality Management — Diploma, Bachelor’s and Master’s, which are recognised worldwide. SMSHM is affiliated to Education Institute of American Hotel and Lodging Association and Preston University, USA.

“It is a matter of pride for us. We started with 14 students and they have successfully graduated from the institute. We also take pride in informing that SMSHM is the first institute to offer a four-year bachelor degree course in Hotel Management,” said Sandipa Basnyat Thapa, HOD, promotion and marketing.

The college, which started in 2001 with 14 students, has come a long way in helping bring out the best to cater Nepali hospitality industry. Celebrating the day, the juniors performed three Nepali songs for their seniors, attired in ethnic dresses.

Samir Thapa, principal, SMSHM spoke about the importance of hospitality education for the development of the country. He also shed lights on the contribution of the institute in providing internationally recognised degrees with an aim to produce skilled manpower par excellence here in our own country.

Shashi Ghatani earned the recognition of an outstanding student of the institute. The contributing hands in the success of the students — Punam Sen, English teacher; Gautam Basu, French teacher and Jeetan Pradhan, chef, were also awarded during the function.
