THE WORLD THIS WEEK

British swimmer’s record:

British swimmer Joanne Jackson has set a world record and beaten double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington in a race. Jackson finished third behind Adlington at the Olympics in Beijing, but was the star of the show at the British championships in Sheffield. She won the women’s 400m freestyle final to take almost a second off the world record. Adlington also beat the old time as she finished second. The win earns Jackson a place at the world championships in Rome, Italy.
