THE WORLD THIS WEEK : Chimpanzee art sells for £12,000

Three paintings by a chimpanzee have been sold for a staggering £12,000. The artwork was done by Congo the chimp nearly 50 years ago. It was snapped up by an American collector when it was auctioned in London on Monday. Congo appeared on a kids’ show called Zoo Time and the paintings were put up for sale by Granda Television, which made the programme. Congo did the artwork when he was three. He did 400 paintings during his lifetime. It’s thought that Picasso once owned one of Congo’s works. — Agencies
