THE WORLD THIS WEEK: Record-breaking litter of puppies

Lots of people would be glad to have a pup or two at home, but imagine 24 of them arriving at once. That’s what happened to the owners of two-year-old Tia the mastiff when she gave birth to a litter of 24 puppies. Four of the pups died, but the 20 that survived — which are now seven weeks old — are thought to be worth about £1,000 each.

Guinness World Records said the current world best is a litter of 23 and added that they plan to contact Tia’s owners. Tia is likely to set two world records — for biggest litter and most surviving puppies.
