It’s about having fun, it’s about relationships, it’s about growing up and mostly it’s about making your dreams come true despite all odds.

Rock on does give the feel of being the next Dil Chahata Hai with ‘best friends forever’ guys having fun all the way and making music together. But music is not all it’s about. It focuses on friendship, changing relationships and dealing with egos and growing up, which have been well graphed and presented by Abhishek Kapoor. Kapoor has captured the essence of life with much sensitivity and presented it in this two-hour-something movie.

The story revolves around four guys Aditya (Farhan Akhtar), Joe (Arjun Rampal), KD (Purab Kohli) and Rob (Luke Kenny), who despite being talented are struggling make it big in the music scene. The movie captures the struggle, the passion and the dreams of a rock band beautifully. The character sketch and growth and maturity in them are presented brilliantly. The pace is slow but no one is complaining as long as you have good music and performance backing it up. The storyline and screenplay is well handled and so is the editing. The story shows the boring and tedious lives being led by the members with fun filled flashbacks and how they come together for the biggest concert of their life.

Applauds goes to the actors who have gone deep into the characters to make each look real. The incidents and characters are what we can easily relate to making it more realistic and practical. So is the humour which is infused well in the movie.

Acting-wise one might wonder why it took so long for Bollywood to discover the actor in Farhan Akhtar. He understands well what the scene requires and has performed the role with flair; he looks like a rock star and blends well even as a businessman who keeps himself busy with work and yes, he can sing too.

It seems even Arjun Rampal is getting it right this time. He not only looks perfect as a rock star with long hair and right attitude but has also acted and emoted well. Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny too have done a good job in not only supporting the cast, but also adding the needed humour to the story.

Girls too have meaty roles. Prachi Desai looks pretty in her Bollywood debut, while Ekta Kapoor does everyone proud with her acting skills. Shahaha is the best talent as she fits perfectly into her role as an over-protective and worried wife.

Rock On is one of the finest movies capturing friendship and rock music. Music by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy gives the flavour of rock and lyrics too are catchy.

A must watch for friends and family and those who love music.
