We’ve almost been addicted to Korean movies and their cute mushy love stories. And you must have definitely watched My Sassy Girl. Well the latest Bollywood movie Ugly Aur Pagli is an adaptation of this movie, which has been beautifully accomplished, keeping the youthful, humorous and vibrant spirit of the original alive.

Kabir (Ranvir Shorey) has been living this completely boring life with no fun, an engineering degree and no girls. Though he always feels it is his lucky day, in the end it really doesn’t turn out the way he expects with something or the other going wrong. On one such day, after giving up hope and returning home, he sees a girl standing on the edge of a railway line with the train speeding her way. He saves her. Kuhu (Mallika Sherawat) is drunk and in a really bad state, so he decides to help her out. And that is how they meet.

The next day Kabir gets a call from Kuhu calling him a ‘phone chor’ as their mobiles get switched the night before. When Kabir turns up, she orders him to follow her and so begin this relation between the two of them. This definitely is the weirdest relation two people could have — Kuhu, a dominant girl and the docile Kabir complying to all she says, despite getting a slap for everything he does wrong and right as well. Kuhu makes some of the most idiosyncratic requests but Kabir agrees to it all, as he’s never met someone like her who makes him feel so good and all he wants is to see her happy. But when two people get close to each other and feelings of love arise between them, things are never that easy, the complications and heart breaks take over their easy going relationship.

The actors are great especially Ranvir Shorey with his dumb geeky looks perfectly suiting the part. The only thing that one doesn’t understand is why he decided to dance. Mallika Sherawat brings forth her acting skills with the spunk and attitude as the demanding but lovable girl she plays. And she also manages to keep her sexy image in the songs. As for the songs, they are sure to be popular in the party zones. Zeenat Aman, who appears for a few minutes, charms you with her eternal beauty.

The best part about the movie is the easygoing way it has been made. Most of the hilarious parts are from the original movie but have been done well, making slight adjustments. These do make you laugh out loud. Though there is an easy flow of the story and it is entertaining and fun, the second half seems to stretch at times, losing its grip.

It’s a movie that one shouldn’t get too engrossed in to find the meaning or any deep story behind it all. Just gather your friends or loved ones and go and enjoy it for an entertaining weekend.
