Kathmandu:
The Australian Embassy Film Roadshow is being held from January 13 to 19 at the Russian Culture Centre. The show is being organised by the Australian Embassy and supported by Kathmandu Film Society (KFS). Rajesh Gongaju, President, KFS, said “This film festival gives a chance to Nepalis to witness a different kind of cinema then the ones they are generally used to viewing.” Most of the movies that are being screened in this festival include those, which have won accolades in Australia in recent years. While there are some movies, which were selected due to their relevance to Nepal’s present context. “The movies portray Australian lifestyle and culture and helps one to understand the country really well. It depicts the complexities prevalent in that society and shows Australia’s history as well,” says Gongaju. Movies related to different topics have been chosen to cater to the likes and interests of the various audiences.
The screening schedule:
• January 16 — Storm Boy
• January 17 — The Rage in Placid Lake
• January 18 — Jindabyne
• January 19 — Newsfront
Tickets are priced at Rs 30 each and are available at the Australian Embassy, Hotel Radisson, Himalayan Java, Jeans Café and Courtyard. Proceeds will be given to Nepal Wheel Chair Club. The movie starts at 5:30 pm.
