Van Gogh killer gets life

Amsterdam: An Amsterdam court Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old Dutch citizen of Moroccan origin to life in prison for the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh. Mohammed Bouyeri repeatedly acknowledged shooting and stabbing the filmmaker. Bouyeri said he had sought a martyr’s death and regretted not having been killed when he was arrested directly after the November 2 murder. The killing has been linked to the short film ‘Submission’ made by Van Gogh with collaboration of Somali-born Dutch MP Hirsi Ali in which violence against women in Muslim society is highlighted. — The Guardian
