Winehouse cleared of assault
LONDON: Amy Winehouse walked free from court on Friday (24Jul09) after she was cleared of assaulting a fan at a charity ball in London last year (08).
The Back to Black hitmaker was accused of lashing out at dancer Sherene Flash and punching her in the face after an argument over a photograph last September (08). She attended a two-day trial in London to answer a charge a charge of assault and was found not guilty as the case concluded on Friday.
London's City of Westminster Magistrates Court heard Flash had approached the star and asked her to pose for a picture.
Flash alleged Winehouse then lashed out and struck her above the right eye. But the singer was cleared after insisting she had merely pushed Flash away because she was "scared".
The singer's lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, told the court, "The main injury here was probably to Miss Flash's pride."
Announcing the verdict, District Judge Timothy Workman said, "Weighing the evidence of Miss Flash against all the other eye witnesses called for both the prosecution and the defence, I cannot be sure that this is not an accident. The charge is dismissed."
As she left court after changing into jeans and a black leather jacket, Winehouse blew a kiss to photographers and said, "I'm relieved. I'm going home."
