Kate Winslet didn’t go to the premiere of ‘Enigma’, but she happily turned up to accept an award for the part. The ‘Titanic’ star was named best British actress for a fourth time by moviegoers at the Empire Film Awards, sponsored by Empire.

Winslet told guests at London’s Dorchester hotel: “I’d like to thank my daughter Mia for making me so fantastically frumpy because I was five months pregnant at the time of the film.”

She had missed the film’s premiere because she felt she couldn’t stand the media attention following the break-up of her marriage to Jim Threapleton. “Things like this always make life worthwhile,” Winslet said.

Ewan McGregor, honoured as best British actor, also claimed the award for a fourth time this year for ‘Moulin Rouge’. “My dreams, when I was a kid, were about being in movies with scantily clad ladies dancing and romance and he gave me an opportunity to do those things and for a long time.”

His co-star, Nicole Kidman, won the best actress prize for her role in the film and ‘Moulin Rouge’ director Baz Luhrmann was voted best director. ‘Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Rings’, took three prizes: best film of 2001, best actor for Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, and Orlando Bloom as best debut performance.
