Wrinkle free ironing

KATHMANDU: We all prefer wearing wrinkle free clothes, but most of us hardly have patience to iron our clothes to get rid of the crinkles. It’s hard to know where to begin and which way to follow. The toughest of all is to get the perfect crease. With these very simple steps ironing can be- not fun, but definitely easy.

•Iron in the bedroom. It’s easier to sort the laundry there, and there are hangers close at hand.

•It is easiest to iron damp clothing, so try spraying them with water. But Acrylic knits need to be ironed when dry.

•Cut your ironing time into half by covering the ironing board with aluminium foil, this will iron both sides of the fabric at once.

•Use high heat for cotton and linen; medium heat for cotton and wool mixed fabric; use low heat for silk, nylon, and polyester.

•While ironing shirts, start with the cuffs and collars inside out, then move to the shoulder area of the shirt, then down toward the sleeves. Button up the shirt and do the body last. To prevent collars, cuffs, and hems from puckering, iron them on the wrong side first.

•To avoid flattening embroidery or eyelets, iron them facedown on a thick towel.

•To iron pants turn them inside out. Begin with the top then waistband area, and then move toward the pockets. Iron the fly, then the seams of the pants, then the hems.

•Always hang the cloths after ironing.
