Yesterday once more

Kathmandu: Oftentimes, pictures speak more than words. This is true of Desmond Doig’s portrayal of a city that he visited and fell in love with, and went on to make it his second home.

The Desmond Doig Exhibition is on at the Siddhartha Gallery at Baber Mahal Revisited. Doig’s sketches remind one of a Kathmandu that our parents used to talk about. Some of the pictures are of those alleyways and temples that we stumble across on our jaunts around Patan or in the inner city areas even today.

His colours speak a language that make us nostalgic for those days of yore when the

city had blue skies and the tiles of our buildings were that deep, rich red.

(The exhibition is on till December 6)
