$1.4m aid for flood-hit

Kathmandu, August 29:

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has appealed donors to collect $1.4 million to support Saptakoshi flood victims. The IFRC is planning to use the collected amount to continue Red Cross’ support and cooperation in the flood-hit areas of Sunsari and Saptari, stated a press statement issued by the IFRC.

The amount will be used to primarily support 5,000 families with shelter and relief items. Yesterday, the IFRC released $250,000 from its Disaster Relief Emergency Fund to support Nepal Red Cross Society’s (NRCS) relief operation. It is also shipping shelter kits and other relief materials from its warehouses in the region to Nepal, the press statement added.

The Nepal Red Cross Society’s headquarters, regional offices and the district chapters are working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, civil societies in the districts and other stakeholders to provide relief the flood victims. It has deployed over 200 volunteers from district chapters and headquarters to the flood-hit areas.
