1 killed, 6 hurt in City hotel

Kathmandu, March 30:

An unidentified armed group killed one person and injured six others, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Armed Police Force (APF), in a guest house at Galkupakha last night, police said. The group also made away with cash and valuables worth around Rs two lakh, victims said.

The police said that one Tirtha Raj Karki of Jajarkot died on the spot, whereas AFP’s ASI Arjun Karki, Kushal Karki, Lokraj Shahi, Mohan Shah, Ramkaji Shrestha and Devananda Upadhyay were injured when the armed group indiscriminately hit them with khukuris at the Pashupati guest house.

Those injured have been discharged from the Bir Hospital after receiving treatment, police said.

Tekendra Chhetri, manager of the guest house, said a few persons asked him to open the

door at around midnight, saying they wanted a room. “The moment the door was opened, around 10 masked persons stormed into the guest house brandishing khukuris,” he told

the police.

“They locked Chhetri inside a room of the guest house and entered room no 104 when Tirtha, Kushal and Arjun were sleeping. They attacked them with khukuris several times. Some of them also entered room no 103 where I was sleeping,” Lokraj Shahi, a customer of the guest house, said. After injuring all of us, they locked us inside a room and ran away, he said.

Shahi said he then broke the locked door and cried for help. “A patrolling police team reached the guest house after half-an-hour,” he added. Shrestha said the armed group also took away cash and valuables worth around Rs two lakh from them. According to the police,Tirtha and Kushal were scheduled to go abroad and APF’s ASI had gone there to visit his relative Tirtha.
