12-year-old boy hangs himself to death
Kathmandu, February 19
Samundra Malla, 12, killed himself by hanging in a hostel run by Dalit Mahila Utthan Kendra Tatha Bal Shikshalaya, a shelter home, at Bhangal, Narayanthan Municipality, yesterday.
Samundra from Soru Rural Municipality-2, Mugu, was an orphan and had been living in the shelter home after his relatives brought him there a few years ago. He was a Grade II student at David-Rajan Memorial English School run by the same organisation.
Director of the organisation, Rajan KC, said Samundra had complained of headache at around 3:25pm yesterday. The teacher then had asked him to go to the hostel and take rest. When his room-mates entered the hostel room after school at 4:00pm, they found him hanging from the ceiling using a shawl. He was rushed to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, but was pronounced dead. The school management had called the police only after the boy was taken to the hospital.
Police, after receiving had visited the school and the hostel room where the incident took place and found a suicide note in the room. The note mentioned the name of an 18-year-old Grade VIII female student studying at the same school as a reason for his suicide.
Director KC said that the Grade VIII girl and the boy were not related and he did not know if anything was going on between them. She said, “The boy used to remain silent most of the time and act aggressively at times.”Police arrested the girl and held her overnight at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, for interrogation. Deputy SP Fadindra Prasain at the circle said, “Although we have freed the girl, we are investigating if she had any hand in the suicide.”
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report has revealed that the boy died as a result of hanging and no external signs of torture were seen on his body.
