134 held in crackdown on crime

Kathmandu, February 23:

Police arrested 134 persons, including a Superintendent of Police (SP), over a period of 48 hours when Metropolitan Police launched a night crackdown campaign on cimes, police said today. Police, however, declined to give the name of the SP who was immediately released.

A source said the SP, who is assigned on districts, is in Kathmandu on leave, and was held when he took out a pistol and terrorised people at Nil Saraswoti temple at Lazimpat on Wednesday night. The source said that the intoxicated SP first quarrelled with a taxi driver over an issue of taxi fare. “When locals gathered and tried to catch him, he took out a pistol and terrorised the locals,” a source said. He was released after the police team took him to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, on the same night. Dhak Bahadur Karki, SP at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, expressed ignorance about the incident.
