18 injured after speeding bus veers off road in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR: At least 18 persons sustained injuries after a passenger bus they were aboard met with an accident along the Araniko Highway in Jorpati section of Bhaktapur on Saturday morning.

The bus (Ba 2 Kha 9580) heading towards Kathmandu from Panauti plunged around two metres onto a field below the road at Jorpati section injuring 18 passengers aboard at around 8:00 am today, according to the Head Constable Bimala Rana at the Mettropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur.

The speeding heavy four-wheeler skidded off the road when suddenly a vehicle coming from opposite direction approached at the sharp turn, according to police. The incident occurred when the bus moved over the edge of the road giving space to the approaching vehicle to pass, said the Head Constable Rana.

The injured passengers were rescued and rushed to the Madhyapur Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the bus has been impounded while its driver and his assistant are held for further investigation into the incident, police said.
