Kathmandu, February 5:

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today decided to investigate the property of 16 officials who did not submit their property details as per its directives.

Stating that the officials defied the CIAA directive by not furnishing their property details, the CIAA said it would investigate their property, suspecting that they might have been hiding the property in the names of their family members.

The CIAA has also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and has given 30 days additional time for the officials to submit their property details. “If they do not submit the details within the stipulated time, we will launch an investigation to punish them,” the CIAA said in a press statement issued today.

The officials under the CIAA scanner are Anita Niroula (Election Commission), Laxman Lamichhane (Office of Auditor General), Mrigendra Bhusal Malla (Forest Investigation and Survey Department), Sharad Kumar Baral, Arjun Baral, Devendra Lal Karna, Rajan Regmi, Basanta Sharma, Bimal Kumar Acharya, Dharma Chandra Shakya, Laxman Kumar Shrestha, Hari Prasad Joshi (Election Commission), Lalan Jha (Water Induced Disaster Control Division), Nathuni Prasad Gupta, Urmila Kafle (Ministry of Local Development) and Pitambar Bajgai.

The National Vigilance Centre had forwarded the names of 222 officials, who had failed to submit their property details, to the CIAA for action.
